Consignment Information

How Can I Make Money?

Please read the following information carefully if you are considering participating as a consignee at Return Engagement.

If you have shopped too much, made buying mistakes, never worn things, have a closet full of clothes or accessories you have spent a fortune on and you are not using and you are wanting to get a little cash in your hand so you can buy new stuff, then please consider signing up as a consignee.

Basically it is FREE and very easy to participate. Here's what you do:

  1. First! Go through your closet, looking for items in new or like new condition. Set them aside and HANG THEM ON HANGERS!
  2. Carefully examine the items and look for spots, tears, smells, anything unusual that takes away from the quality of the garment. If you can not make the items clean and basically perfect, do not bring them in. This bunch of items is what we call "bundles".
  3. First Time Clients
    • First Time Clients can bring their bundle to us in one of two ways - by appointment or you can drop off a bundle of eight (8) items or less on a Tuesday.
    • At your appointment, you will receive an itemized list of what items from your bundle we accepted and you can decide at that time if you want to donate things we don't take or if you want the item back at the end of the consignment period..
  4. Established Clients
    • Established Clients can bring their bundle to us in one of three ways - by appointment or you can drop off a bundle of eight (8) items or less on a Tuesday.
    • At your appointment, you will receive an itemized list of what items from your bundle we accepted and you can decide at that time if you want to donate things we don't take or if you want the item back at the end of the consignment period..
    • A third option may be available to established clients based on availability. If you have a bundle and can't wait for an appointment, call the office and check to see if we are accepting drop by bundles. All drop by bundles are gone through at our convenience and the items we don't accept will be given to charity. (NO EXCEPTIONS). At the end of the consignment period, any items remaining unsold will also be donated to a registered charity. Note: At this time, this option is only available to established clients, depending on our workload. In order to take advantage of drop by bundles's, you must get approval and be on the approved list and you must agree that anything not accepted will be donated - no exceptions.
  5. Note: Regardless of type of bundle, any item that starts at $10.00 or less will automatically be donated to a registered charity.

Notes:

  • Any item selected will be placed on consignment for as much as 12 weeks. (These decisions are at the discretion of the Fashion Director.)
  • Return Engagement will determine the starting price of all consigned items.
  • The owner will receive 50% of the actual selling price, which will be paid to the owner at the end of the consignment period.
  • Items that are unsold after six (6) weeks, will have price adjustments on a sliding scale. The periodic price reductions for the last 6 weeks start at 10% and end up at 50% off of the original starting price.
  • Return Engagement also retains the right to mark down the item at our discretion. All items with a starting price of $10.00 or less will be donated at the end of the consignment period.
  • At the end of the 12 week period, all unsold items must be picked up by the owner within 14 days or the unsold item(s) will be donated to a licensed charity.

Why was my item refused?

  • Usually, it is the condition, the style is not current, the wrongseason, has an odor, or that the item is need of cleaning and/or pressing.
  • We check the collars and linings inside all jackets, tops, and pants.
  • Clean but discolored linings are rejected.
  • Odors (mold, mildew, smoke, perfume, storage, moth balls) also will cause your item to be rejected.
  • Most fancy items are not great sellers.
  • Some items are simply too dated or inexpensive to be profitable here.

Items that we don't usually take:

  • Jewelry, vintage clothing (we prefer recent resale), furs, collectible's, watches, men's and children's clothing, furniture, past trend items, large print, large shoulder pads, pleated items, double-breasted jackets, sports items, shorts, bathing and bodysuits, overalls, lingerie, house-wares, bridal, bridesmaid, graduation, or prom gowns.

Now the Good Part! How you are paid:

We pay by check on demand when we owe over $20.00, or at the end of the consignment period.

Whatever price the item sells for is split 50/50. This price is the actual selling price, which is not necessarily the starting price. (see above, when the 10-50% price reductions start, etc.

Account credit can be used in store at any time.

A check will be mailed on request with $1.00 fee. If you want a mailed check, we require that any remaining item(s) be donated to a registered charity.
